The current of excommunication (takfir) is a deviated course in the Islamic society which negates the beliefs of other Muslims through crude and violent interpretations of Islam on the claim to materialize and establish genuine Islam. Salafism, which denies the intellect as the source, and relies on the superficial meaning of narrations, is the most important pillar of this thought. This has resulted in the branding of a high percentage of Muslims as infidels and legitimizing their killing, thereby increasing the boundaries of the definition of polytheism (shirk) and unbelief (kufr). As a consequence, the DAESH current, as one of the most prominent Takfiri groups, has, with the support of the West and the Wahhabi rulers of the region, laid claim to the Islamic Caliphate in Iraq and Syria. Its attacks have targeted Shi’a Muslims, more than any other Islamic group, in view of their belief in such concepts as “wasilah” (means of approaching God), “shafa’ah” (seeking intercession with God through the Prophet and the Infallible Imams), and reverence for the status of saints. The main mechanism for removing ambiguities and exposing the deviation of DAESH from genuine Islam, is through reference to the ayahs of the holy Qur’an, Hadith and authentic texts, considered reliable by both Shi’as and Sunnis.
